August 6 2013 Rosenfeld News by Tina Wolfe
Summer seems to be moving along much too fast and the days are noticeably shorter. Only a few short weeks ago the sun was waiting for me when I awoke at 5:00 am. Now I get to sleep in till around 6 and the day takes a bit longer to get going. Our peas are finished producing and we’re pulling the plants for our grandkids sheep. I have frozen enough yellow and green beans so the rest will be left to dry. The cucumbers are very slow this year and I’ve only pickled four quarts of dills to this point. I like to have a dozen jars in my pantry; one for every month as a treat. The tomatoes are ripening by the pail full but Dave and I are huge fans and find many different ways of eating them; salad, sandwiches, soup and even as a dessert sprinkled with sugar.
Tripping in Europe
Mike and Anna Wolfe along with children Gabby and Thomas spent three weeks gallivanting in Europe. Their daughter Amber met them in Rome and from that destination they travelled by train to Florence, Vienna, Prague and ended in Bremen, Germany. They arrived back in Winnipeg Sunday night tired but full of adventure stories. It’s good to have them back home. There will be more coverage about their travels next week.
Family gathering
The Rosenfeld population exploded August long weekend. Jake and Tina Neufeld were surprised when family began arriving and all seven siblings and their families descended on the yard. The backyard soon became a campground with campers and tents. There were a total of 57 adults and children celebrating mom and grandma’s 60th surprise birthday. The vehicles displayed licence plates from Alberta, Saskatchewan, Ontario and Manitoba. Tina Neufeld’s actual birthday will be on October 4 but for the surprise element the family chose this weekend for the gathering. It had also been Jake and Tina’s 41st wedding anniversary July 9 so what better way to celebrate both occasions. Sunday, August 4 this yard was deserted for a day at Stanley Park where they were joined by Tina’s siblings. Many cousins joined the festivities and soon there were over 100 people enjoying the barbeque and faspa, visiting and connecting after not seeing each other for some time. Many photos were taken including a family photo as a special birthday gift.
It was great to see this family enjoy the weekend playing games; hooting, hollering and cheering each other on during the afternoons. There are so many news stories about families disintegrating and it was a pleasure to see this family enjoying each other’s company. The community would like to add birthday wishes for Tina and add congratulations for Jake and Tina’s anniversary. May you have many more of both.
School update
Even though there are no children at school that does not mean that there is no activity on the playground. Equipment has been busy taking down some of the old playground structures and preparing for the new one purchased which meets safety standards. This will definitely be a high point for the kids first day back in September.
